Need advice from prompt experts: Pixar-style 3D vs Ghibli-style images — how do you write prompts effectively?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working a lot with AI image generation lately (especially MidJourney), and I’m trying to seriously improve my prompting skills.

Right now I’m focusing on 2 styles:

  • Clean, appealing 3D animation (Pixar-like vibe)
  • Soft, emotional, hand-painted Ghibli-inspired scenes

But I feel like my prompts are still “hit or miss” — sometimes they look amazing, sometimes totally off.

So I’d really appreciate advice from more experienced creators here 🙏

Here are a few specific things I’m struggling with:

  1. For Pixar-style 3D:
  • How do you consistently get that “high-end animated film” look?
  • What keywords actually matter most? (lighting? rendering? materials?)
  • How do you avoid it looking cheap or plastic?
  1. For Ghibli-style:
  • How do you keep it soft, peaceful, and painterly without over-detailing?
  • Any tips for composition + atmosphere (light, fog, color grading)?
  • How do you describe “emotion” in prompts effectively?
  1. General prompting:
  • Do you structure prompts in a fixed formula?
  • How important are reference images vs pure text?
  • Any “must-have” keywords you always include?

If you have example prompts that worked well for you, I’d LOVE to see them.

Thanks a lot — really appreciate any insight from you all 🙌
