Unpolished Midjourney: Forcing It into Grainy, Haunted, Alive Textures (SREF cocktail inside)

Unpolished Midjourney: Forcing It into Grainy, Haunted, Alive Textures (SREF cocktail inside)

The best thing about Midjourney is the research and the rabbit holes mixing styles. No other model has this depth of exploration, or at least none that I know of.

I’ve been deep in the "Imperfect Surrealism" rabbit hole lately, specifically playing with surreal figures that seem to emerge from medieval tapestry work. The goal? Textures. Alive textures. I want my animations to feel like a haunted tapestry coming to life.

Random Moments of truth

This process is pure chaos-fueled research for a style that doesn’t quite exist yet.
--chaos is my best friend, and randomness is what fuels my prompts.

The prompts are built on idea associations rather than direct description, more like identifiers that connect words, visuals, and specific SREFs. It’s messy. It’s grainy. It’s got that "etched-in-the-void" vibe.

The Recipe:

  • Prompt: Sci-fi space entity, Ariadne's Thread threading time and space
  • The SREF Cocktail: --sref 32201241118 2765650013
  • The Chaos Factor: --chaos 20 (just enough to keep it weird, not enough to break the reality... mostly)
  • Stylize: --sw 300

We’re obsessed with high-res. 4k. 8k. But there is a specific beauty in the low-fidelity of a dream. I am looking for sounds on a synth, to distort them or clean them up.

Let's see your "Imperfect" results

We’re all obsessed with high-res 4K/8K, but there’s a specific beauty in the low-fidelity haze of a dream. It’s like finding sounds on a synth and deciding whether to distort them further or clean them up.

Let’s see your "Imperfect" results!
I’m trying to build a little library of this style. If you play with these SREFs, drop your results below. I want to see how the "Thread" treats your prompts.
Or tell me I’m crazy and go back to prompting "hyper-realistic cat in a suit." Your call.
