Forcing by Ryan Dyar

Well, after a month of doing proper storm chasing throughout the Midwest, I’ve come away with a few conclusions… 1. I honestly don’t know shit about tracking weather. I thought I knew a little about it, but I was very wrong. Traveling with a guy who is educated in meteorology and has been forecasting storms for years was both humbling and eye opening. Unfortunately I’m much less intelligent than him, so my brain wasn’t able to soak up many of the lessons he tried to give me. 2. The Midwest is absolutely amazing. I’m originally from Kansas City (but grew up in Portland) so I had an idea of what the “flyover” states were like. I was wrong. These areas are gorgeous in their own unique ways. Even the flat fields of grassland that stretch as far as the eye can see hold a strange beauty I didn’t expect. And with all the political divide these days, it was awesome to see communities of people, who might not share my views, offer nothing but hospitality and friendly smiles. I didn’t meet a single asshole in all of the Midwest. 3. This will NOT be my last time chasing storms. I’m fucking hooked. I made some new friends, spent a ton of time with an old friend, and saw weather that left my jaw on the floor. I can’t wait to do it again next year. Anyway, I THINK I finished all of my images from my month spent looking at the sky. You can see them here (but view them on a computer if you care to really gander at my bullshit) https://www.ryandyar.com/under-the-storms
